On a recent dispensary excursion, I had a great encounter with a Budtender who recommend I review RS11 by Doja Pak, Wizard Trees, and Deep East. I have said it quite a few times before, and I will keep saying it. A good budtender can genuinely make the difference between a fantastic experience and a horrible experience. In an ideal scenario, a good budtender will guide customers to good batches describing the flowers’ detailed characteristics while straying them away from a popular brand or stain that is part of a bad batch.

With that being said, there is a budtender at Cookies San Diego who consistently exceeds my expectation and is a wealth of knowledge. Danielle (@danidarkchoclit) is by far one of the better bud tenders I have met recently. She deep dives genetics with the best of them off the top of her head and can translate genetics into flavor profiles effortlessly. Most importantly, the Cookies menu is extensive, and that amount of knowledge is daunting. Great work Dani! Keep it up!

RS11 is the first strain I am reviewing by Doja Pak, Wizard Trees, and Deep East. RS11 is an exclusive strain for the group and has a very impressive genetic makeup. The RS11 Strain continues to be very popular and in high demand many months after it first dropped.

RS11 by Doja Pak, Wizard Trees, and Deep East is a cross of Black Sherbert, OZ Kush, and Pink Guava. I must say that is quite the new school supergroup, and it only makes sense the cross would create a strain everyone is talking about.

was very impressed with the appearance and bud structure. For the most part, my eighth was one giant bud paired with a couple of tiny buds. The Flowers have a purplish hue indicating it more is more sherbert and skittlez dominant.

Stoner Story
Right, when the 215 legislation passed, it was a whole new world. With that being said, there was still risk involved every time you visited a dispensary. Marijuana, as it is now, was illegal at a federal level, and it was common for the Federal Government to raid dispensaries back then. Many visionaries took on that risk to change the world and normalize marijuana, marijuana use, and marijuana dispensaries even with severe consequences. Those few risk-takers actions changed America as we see marijuana being legalized and normalized in more states every day. Congrats, New York!

In the beginning, there were only dispensaries in Berekely and Oakland (Oaksterdam). The first legal dispensary in Berekely was BPG (Berkeley Patients Group). BPG was unlike any dispensary at the time. The building was a large circle, with very tall windows all the way around. The windows were covered with long white drapes but still allowed the natural sunlight to shine through.

When you first walked in you, there was a large lounge with many tables, allowing for hanging out and consumption. It was the norm to share a table with a stranger, smoke with them, and share stories. There was a glass counter with products like papers, glass pieces, BPG merch, and other head shop items along the wall. In the beginning, they had a professional joint roller that looked like Rasputin, roll joints for you of the weed you purchased. However, what made this lounge unique is that you did not need a Doctor’s Rec to get in. I was able to bring my friends without recs, and they were allowed to consume on sight. Now I know this is normalized now, but 21 years ago, hanging out at a public place smoking cannabis was taboo.

Going deeper into the building, past the glass counter, was the door to the backroom. There was a security guard there checking your OCBC (Oakland Cannabis Buyers Club) Card and allowing access. BPG thrived pre-rec. They introduced me to so many strains that became the stapes of everything we are smoking today. They also had an incredible selection of edibles, butter (butter bros.), and hashes.

Notwithstanding, a lot of what they have gone extinct. The pharmacy tins and SDSH (Super Duper Silver Haze) stood out the most. The SDSH wasn’t even a haze, but instead the real bubble gum strain, and it burned so clean. None of the bubble gum strains of today burn clean; they all sizzle.

So many unforgettable memories! Thanks, BPG! Happy 21st Anniversary! One of my favorite memories was DJing in the lounge. I went in more of a psychedelic rock mix, straying away from my usual hip hop and pop material. It was one of my favorite gigs as I was able to smoke at the turntables. Having different events and activities was the norm for BPG at the time. They had a calendar of events that included growing classes, yoga, music events, painting workshops, etc.

Background
Not only do dispensaries take on risk but so do the cultivators. The cultivators I am discussing in today’s review are from the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Official Gooniez and Jelly Co. are both San Francisco-based boutique cannabis cultivators. I have reviewed quite a few different Gooniez strains on the blog, but I am excited to see what Jelly Co. has to offer finally. Today I will be reviewing Dino Duck, the recent collab between The Gooniez and Jelly Co.

Genetics
Dino Duck by Jelly Cannabis Co. and The Official Goonies has unknown genetics. However, the aroma of musty library books hints towards lemon cherry gelato being part of the genetics. Not to mention the really clean high that I believe is also an indicator, but let me not get ahead of myself.

Appearance
Viewing the buds from a distance, the light green hue and long orange hairs dominate. There are some darker green and purple hues on some of the leaves, but for the most part, the appearance of these buds is bright green and covered in resinous trichome crystals.

Aroma
Earlier in the review, I discussed Dino Duck’s aroma by Jelly Co and The Gooniez being similar to musty old library books. This is not my description of Lemon Cherry Gelato but instead someone who commented on my review. I didn’t want to accept the description in the beginning, but after trying it again. I can confirm the aroma is very similar. I would describe the scent as musky, creamy citrus lemon notes combined with sweet cherry notes complemented by delicate earthy notes.

Stoner Story
There are few companies I have been wanting to circle back and revisit since learning how to use a camera properly. Alien Labs is one of them. I had a pretty good experience in the past, and I am trying to focus on the best of the best as I realize how unrealistic it is to try to document every strain.

On a recent trip to the new March and Ash in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego, while picking up some 710 Labs concentrates, some Alien Labs caught my eye. I was impressed by March and Ash’s selection of four different indoor strains and quite a few outdoor strains. I ended up walking out with the Galatic Gas by Alien Labs with my inherent bias for gas. I experienced outstanding customer service and somewhat competitive prices. I would rate the overall March and Ash experience well.

Background
Alien Labs was started in 2014 in Northern California by Ted Lidie. Ted is a second-generation farmer who set out to create a lifestyle focused on quality. Before starting Alien Labs, Ted founded and operated The Golden State Wellness dispensary learning the ins and outs of the cannabis industry. All of this coming from a small basement grow operation with six lights out of Northern California.

Genetics
Galactic Gas by Alien Labs is the cross of Gelato #45 and Gelato #41. Welcome to the Gelato incest orgy. Towels are over there…

Appearance
To be frank, I am disappointed in the appearance. The buds in my jar are all tiny and hava a ton of stems. Now granted, stems are part of the plant, and I get it, but general clean-up makes the buds appear wholely intact. There were so many stems with buds on only have of them; I got the sense I got a second-hand smoked bag.

Also, being that the buds were so tiny, I found my spinning bud shot much more challenging than usual to shoot.

Aroma
Regretfully, I found the aroma incredibly subdued. When digging in deep, you could discover a fantastic lite tropical Italian ice-like nose, but I wanted it at least ten times stronger. Also noticeably absent were any and all gas notes. I would describe the nose as a very faint tropical citrus complemented by delicate sweet berry notes.

The Inhale and The Exhale
Thankfully, the inhale had more representation than the aroma but was still slightly muted relative to where I would have liked to see it. The inhale was a mix of sweet gassy tropical citrus notes that evolve into a creamy earthiness flavor profile during the exhale.

The Smoking Experience
Through the smoking experience, you can tell these were quality flowers grown the right way. They burned clean with a very clean high. I just need them to have a much forward aroma and flavor profile. As I continue my stoner journey, I find the flavor profile so much more important to me than the high. Granted, that is very much a subjective personal preference.

The High
As I mentioned above, there are some excellent qualities and aspects to these Galatic Gas flowers by Alien Labs. The high is incredibly clean; IE I found it to be a very functional high that gets you in a perfect headspace. The high was so clean at times it reminded me of a dab high.

So was it worth the money and would I buy it again?
I opened this jar with high expectations. I was so ready to have and really wanted a quality, top-shelf experience. Notwithstanding, in just comparing it to the last strain I reviewed, Shermints by The Cure Company, The Cure Company blew Alien Labs out of the water. The Cure Company buds were nice large fluffy buds, with a strong, forward nose and a robust flavor profile compared to the tiny cola’d subdued aroma and lackluster flavor profile of Galactic Gas by Alien Labs.

Also worth considering, I wasn’t impressed enough with Sherbmints by The Cure Company that I would repurchase it. Maybe going in with high expectations was part of my problem, but then again, a brand based on quality should deliver consistent quality.

Stoner Story
Compa P is the Backpack Boyz Account Manager covering the Bay Area Region. If you ever looked at his Instagram, you would never his face. This is because he is always covering it up with the mustached avatar that has become his identity.

When making the 2020 Zaza awards, I was playing around with deep fake technology, trying to get Adam Ill and Berner to make an appearance on the show. However, the consumer technology isn’t ready yet. That is when I realized I could creatively hide my identity and get in front of the camera.

Inspired by and paying homage to Compa P and Killface from Frisky Dingo, I created the skull face with red glowing eyes with my logo behind. And with that, you can now watch my reviews and join me for smoke sessions on youtube searching zerofux or visiting my blog at zerofux.org and look for the watch latest episode of The Zerofux Show.

Background
The Backpack Boyz and 5 Points keep getting bigger and becoming a real competitor in the legal market. They are in the process of opening their dispensary in Los Angeles while dominating the top shelf in any club they can get in. They recently dropped many new strains, one of them being M3, which I am reviewing today.

Genetics
M3 by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points is a Mac. I am not sure if or what strain was crossed to make it uniquely theirs. Still, I can definitely see the Alien Cookies, Comobain, and Star Fighter roots in the strain around the appearance, aroma, flavor profile, high, and smoking experience.

Appearance
The flowering tops of M3 by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points are such a light green that they almost appear white in particular light. The buds are a light green hue with a few dark green leaves found here and there. The buds are covered in tiny white hair with a vast amount of healthy trichome crystals visible to the naked eye with just the perfect amount of orange hairs.

Aroma
The aroma of M3, like most macs, begins with a base of musky, peppery, and earthy, then is complemented by delicate sweet and floral notes. Digging in deeper into the nose, I was able to find some diesel notes hiding deep within.

The Inhale and The Exhale
The inhale begins with pungent, musky, earthy notes that evolve into a sweet floral flavor profile not long after. The sweet floral notes dominate the exhale as earthy sweet notes linger. Often, with a Mac strain, orange citrus notes will be present in the aroma and flavor profile. I didn’t see any orange citrus presence, and I am glad, as I am orange terp’d out.

The Smoking Experience
These flowers, in many ways, remind me of a harvest from a clean green grow. The buds burn very clean and have an impeccable appearance. With the clean burn and dynamic evolving flavor profile, M3 by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points is the best Mac I have reviewed by far.

The High
Similar to a traditional mac strain, I found the high to be relaxed, uplifting, and euphoric. These flowers are great for so many things, like going to a museum, flying a kite, or going for a walk with such great effects. The strain M3, similar to MAC, would be ideal for treating stress and depression from a medicinal perspective.

So was it worth the money and would I buy it again?
M3 by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points is an excellent batch of MAC or a slight variant with less citrus. With that being said, I am not the biggest MAC head, so I probably will not be repurchasing it. However, one of my good friend’s favorite strain is MAC, and I can see him buying this every trip to the dispensary.

Where can it be found?
As the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points grow in size, their flowers are becoming easier to find. Dr. Green Thumb, Cookies, and Cana Harbor are pretty consistent in SoCal. In contrast, I have seen a lot of the Backpack Boyz, and 5 Points strains in the Dr. Green Thumb and Cookies in San Francisco.

Mentoz by Space Invaderz Exotic Cannabis Strain Review and Smoke Sesh

The Zerofux Show Season 1 Episode 4 Strain Review: Mentoz by Space Invaderz

Stoner Story
Before Sour took over in the late 90s in New York, the Cannabis landscape looked very different. Strains like Tyson, Black, Dro, Chocolate, and Feet dominated the scene. Granted, those were not the technical strain names, but instead the nicknames the streets embraced.

One crew that worked to change everything for New York, was Dipset. Dipset is a rap supergroup that consists of Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Freekey Zeekey, and Juelz Santana. The Dipset crew introduced a good part of New York to exotic flowers and had them stop smoking feet and bammer.

They did it with a bunch of Hazes; Purple Haze, Super Silver Haze, Lemon Haze, and Strawberry Haze. I would imagine the crew’s commercial success members were seeing gave them access to West Coast Flowers. Not soon after Sour Diesel took over, and there was no looking back. The Slang for good weed in New York at the time was Sour.

Background
Before the Sour Takeover, a guy named StackBundles started bringing exotic flowers to the Far Rockaway neighborhood, where a crew of young kids began to see an evolution before their eyes and an opportunity. They observed the incredibly high demand for Cannabis in New York and how the price would consistently rise, getting to a point where Sour was $600 an ounce.

Far Rockaway is on the Eastside of the Queens borough of New York. There are no icons, celebrities, or moguls that have come out of the neighborhood. To succeed there, you must be focused and driven, overcoming obstacles that get in your way. Furthermore, when you do achieve success, you are breaking through barriers getting haters along the way.

Many years later, the crew of young kids that observed StackBundles is all grown up and broke through barriers starting the company Space Invaderz. They went on to be the first ones in their neighborhood with their own weed strain, Mentoz. I am very excited to share my experience with this very rare and exclusive strain with you.

Genetics
If you are familiar with the Mentos candy that the strain pays homage to, you will most likely be familiar with the 90s commercials that put them on the map. However, very few people realize that the Mentos’ Marketing campaign came at a cost. To fund the marketing campaign, Mentos went from fifty different flavor offerings down to two. Mentoz by Space Invaderz, the strain, and brand I am reviewing today, has big plans to bring all the flavors back through their weed strain.

Notwithstanding, Space Invaderz does not publish their genetics. If I were to guess what the cross of the Original Mentoz is, based on the aroma, I would say Thin Mintz crossed with most likely a mild OG Kush, with the Thin Mintz being significantly more dominant.

Appearance
The first thing you notice when looking at Mentoz by Space Invaderz is the overwhelming amount of resinous trichome crystals that encase the flowering tops. Underneath, the layer of crystals are leaves with a mix of light green and light purple hues with very few orange hairs.

Aroma
The aroma of Mentoz by Space Invaders does a great job of paying homage to the candy it is named after. The nose of the buds is a mix of sharp, sweet, minty, and piney notes.

The Inhale and The Exhale
The inhale begins with a smooth, cool, creamy, minty goodness. The exhale continues with the minty, creamy notes complementing them with delicate lemon and pine notes. I found the creamy notes to continue to linger long after exhale, only adding to the smoking experience.

The Smoking Experience
The smooth minty inhale makes for a very enjoyable smoking experience in addition to the lingering creamy notes. Even though the inhale was very smooth, there was considerable expansion.

The High
Mentoz by Space Invaders has a very heavy high. A peel me off the floor when we are leaving high. The inhale and smoking experience are very gentle and pleasant, while the high quickly creeps up and boom.

So was it worth the money and would I buy it again?
Yes and yes. With a nose that is nothing but Zaza and a really potent high, these flowers are not ones to pass up.

Dolato 47 by Thick Budz via Logan Local Illinois Cannabis Strain Review

Stoner Story
I love to see marijuana legalization spreading across all the states. In the 2020 election, Arizona, New Jersey, South Dakota, Mississippi, and Montana approved Marijuana Ballot measures. Furthermore, not soon after, Congress passed a bill to decriminalize marijuana nationwide.

Now that bill still needs to pass the Senate and be approved by the President. However, with the current power change, it appears that the outcome will be even more likely. Now it is important to note; decriminalization is not legalization. Decriminalizing marijuana declassifies it as a class A narcotic. It will not allow Arkansas to open up pot clubs until it is legal at the state level.

Now to put this in perspective, before proposition 215 in 1996, which legalized medical marijuana, Berkeley decriminalized marijuana in the late 80s or early 90s. Decriminalization in Berkeley did not make it legal to buy and sell weed, but if the police caught you smoking a joint, you were not charged in most scenarios. Today Bekerely is decriminalizing magic mushrooms.

In all the states where it is legal, even with all this legalization and access, there still continues to be a black market. There a few different reasons for the persistence of a marijuana black market; firstly, there are many challenges with becoming compliant, the cost, the time, the experience, the knowledge, and the taxes. Not to mention the regulations are constantly changing, and you must stay on top of it all.

Taking a step back, you can see how the government functions as a middle man getting a piece of all the action. I would also consider that to be another motivator for staying underground. By cutting out the middleman, you can dramatically increase your profit margin.

Either way, I see it as a necessary part of the cannabis community ecosystem, allowing smokers to get quality flowers at a fair price without the man getting his share. Furthermore, this activity enables Cannabis Dynasties to be born. Look at the Backpack Boyz, they recently went from completely underground to being complaint, to being sold in cookies, and now they are opening their dispensary.

I can’t express how important it is to have multiple dynasties in the cannabis industry, competing against each other while also allowing new ones to be born. This competition has the potential to benefit everyone with better flowers and maybe even better prices, maybe. All thanks to the black market.

Background
So, for today’s review, we head to Chicago to review Dolato 47 by Thick Budz via Logan Local. This my first time trying flowers by Thick Budz, but I have been using the service provided by Logan Local for quite a while. It is priceless to find a trustworthy, quality consistent service provider in today’s landscape of fake accounts and stolen pics.

Polvoron Tradicional by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points Exotic Cannabis Strain Review

Stoner Story
I write this review at the end of 2020 as I reflect on the last year, the most challenging many have ever seen. I want to first send out my condolences to anyone who lost someone. We are all in this together. The world mourns with you for your loss, and love is eternal.

One habit that I found has come in handy as of late is seeing the positive side of things. It is too easy to start the day off on a sour note, get caught up in the negative, find faults in everything, or beat yourself up for making a mistake.

Instead, try to find the good. For example, look for the positive outcomes that come out of making that mistake. Embrace the lesson you learned, and take pleasure in knowing that when you truly learn from your mistakes, the likelihood of repeating the error decreases dramatically.

Also, I think those ideas are in line with making the best of a bad situation. While I had some more time during the pandemic than usual, I embraced my creative spirit and created more content than I usually would have. On some level, the content creation was a form of escape for me. I also expanded the type of content I create, which pushed me out of my comfort zone, and in turn, had me learning new things while also getting better at the things I practiced.

Nonetheless, I hope everyone can find their escape or at least find some good in all this bad all around us. In the meantime, let’s remember to be kind to one another. We are all in this together. Stay healthy and tell the people in your life you love them.
Background
I am very excited to be reviewing Polvoron Tradicional by the Backpack Boyz and 5 Points. I have wanted to try as well as review some of these more obscure Backpack Boyz strains for quite some time. As seen in the video and pictures, the Polvoron Tradicional comes in a more street-oriented mylar bag but still includes the tamper-evident sticker we find on the dispensary bought Backpack Boyz and 5 Points flowers.

The actual La Estepena Polvoron Tradicional is a popular dessert cookie from Spain. Finely ground almonds are used to make the crumbly, soft cookies. The mylar bag is a play on the desserts’ packaging, a marketing technic I discussed lately on a recent Dubz Garden review. Also worth noting in addition to what appears to be the cookies, we also see some lemons and cherries, most likely indicating a lemon cherry gelato cross.
Genetics
Now there is not too much out there about this strain. As of now, the genetics are unknown to me. I am a big lemon cherry gelato fan, but I am not finding its presence in the nose and as the label implied. I could be wrong, or it might be the less dominant strain in the cross.

Lemon Tree by the Brand Lemon Tree Cannabis Strain Review

Instagram Origin Story
It is essential to go through life, not only living in the moment but truly appreciating the moment. It is too easy to take a moment for granted. To think this moment in time, this opportunity, the company of a fantastic person, or access to your favorite flowers will last forever.

After moving from the Bay Area to Southern California, I found myself homesick for some of my favorite flowers. I realized I took for granted the access I had to the world’s best cannabis in the Bay Area, cannabis that, at that time, I could not get in SoCal. Most of all, I found myself missing Lemon Tree.

I had never been on social media before creating my Zerofux Instagram account. Soon after getting homesick for Lemon Tree, I had the idea to create a social media account to get Lemon Tree’s attention, show them I am the real deal, and score a pack. Well, being that Lemon Tree is a very much established legit business, they blew me right off and rightfully so. A legit company should not risk what they worked so hard for.

At that point, though, I was logged in. As I began to dig deeper, I found there was a vast cannabis community. I found terrific seshs, all sorts of new flowers, both complaint and non, a group of entertaining influencers, and a cool community of people crowd-sourcing the whole thing.

Afterward, I found myself gravitating towards a camera, deciding I wanted to participate in the crowd-sourced content creation. I enjoy a more multimedia experience, and I wanted to include music, so I thought it made more sense to make videos. As you can see, my first videos sucked and continued to suck for quite a while. Eventually, though, I found my stride and now consider myself a Marketing God.

With over one hundred reviews and just as many promo videos, I am starting to get the hang of creating content and the internets. I have made many friends, got to try many fantastic strains, even some before they came out, and got the chance to keep it real while blindly embracing creativity and sharing my experiences with all of you. All of this from me just wanting some Lemon Tree. Thanks for the inspiration, Lemon Tree! #ididitallforthelemontree

Background

“Have you tried Lemon Tree? No the Real Lemon Tree.” This is a conversation I find myself having with many smokers and a lot of budtenders. While Lemon Tree is a popular strain, it is also the name of a brand, who originated the strain and helped bring it to the masses.

Lemon Tree is a group of cultivators based out of the Santa Cruz Mountains with well over a decade of experience in the Legal Cannabis Industry. Lemon Tree took the Medicinal Cannabis Industry by storm when they released their product around the middle of the 215 revolution, which I miss so much. I immediately fell in love with both the Lemon Tree brand and strain and have been ever since.
